The first commitment for the Dignity Pledge is “To be kind, friendly, humane, compassionate, and thoughtful of others.” Sounds pretty great, right? But what does this really mean? What does it look like to really, truly commit to this statement?
Well, kindness, compassion, and thoughtfulness can look different depending on circumstances and individuals. However, these can all be combined into one simple idea: remember just how valuable each person is and treat them accordingly.
Consider this – if you buy an expensive, beautiful car, you’re likely not going to throw garbage in it, drive it recklessly, or fail to maintain it. You would treat it with care, be cautious when driving it, and make sure it is in good condition. The same holds true for how we should treat each person we interact with! When we know something is valuable, we will treat it in such a way. We won’t say bad things about it or abuse it. Similarly, we need to make people feel valued. We do this by speaking to them kindly, making sure they are doing well, and encouraging them through this life. The little acts that you do can make a HUGE difference for individuals. You don’t know the impact the smile or checking in can do.
As you commit to Dignity Revolution lifestyle, remember to treat everyone with true respect and regard them as the valuable person they are.
