Let’s Prevent Teen Suicide
In America today, a teen dies from suicide every 100 minutes. Our middle schools and high schools are experiencing a tragic and growing epidemic that is by all accounts preventable. Do you know the warning signs of suicide?
– Talking about death or self-harm
– Changes in behavior or personality that seem out of character
– Talking about feeling hopeless or worthless
– Sleeping too much or not enough (insomnia)
– Changes in eating habits, including eating too much or not enough
– Engaging in risky or harmful behavior
– Behavior changes such as inability concentrating or falling grades in school
– Loss of interest in friends, family or socializing
– Giving away treasured possessions
– Talking about feeling shame, guilt, or others are “better off without me”
– Reaching out to loved ones (to say goodbye)
If you or someone you care about is showing signs of contemplating suicide, help is available. Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK {8255} any time of day or night, and they will connect you with a local crisis center right away.
These warning signs are too important to ignore.
